Writing Conferences and Camps for Children and Youth

April 21, 2012. 2012 Calgary Young Writers' Conference, at Crescent Heights High School in Calgary, AB. (Also April 30, 2011; April 17, 2010; April 18, 2009.)

February 23 & 24, 2012.  Story Avenue 2012 at the Edmonton Public School Board's Centre for Education. Writing workshops for inner city kids, grades 5-6. (Also January 27 & 28, 2010.)

Edmonton Public SchoolsMay 5, 2011. Writing workshop for Margaret T. Stevenson Award winners, the top five. These were all very talented grade 8 students that will go far in the world!

March 31, 2011. Bennet Centre Young Writers' Camp. Writing workshops for junior high students. (Also March 3 & 4, 2011, for elementary students; April 3, 2008, for grades 7, 8, 9; March 31 & April 1, 2008, for grades 4, 5, 6.)

July 5-10, 2009. WordsWorth 2009: When the Phoenix Rises. Summer Young Writers' Camp at Kamp Kiwanis, Bragg Creek, AB. (sponsored by YABS)

School and Library Visits

Peace River Area - Northwest AlbertaOctober 24-27, 2011. Peace Library System local author tour, part of the fall's Taleblazers activities. Monday: Hythe, Valhalla (complete with Vikings!), La Glace. Tuesday: Elmworth, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith. Wednesday: Wembley, Grande Prairie, DeBolt. Thursday: Valleyview, Fox Creek. Lots of miles. Lots of kids. Lots of fun. Thanks to the many people who had to plan and do to make this tour a success.

October 13. Sprucewood Library, Edmonton, with students from Mother Teresa School.

May 4, 2009. Horse Hill School, Edmonton. Writing workshops to grades 3/4 and 5/6.

April 24, 2009. Sacred Heart School, Wetaskiwin. Writing workshops with grades 6 and 9.

February 12, 2009.  Book talks to 7 classes at the grand reopening of the library at St. Mark Junior High, Edmonton.

May 8, 2008. GH Primeau School, Morinville. A "book activity" for a grade 6 special needs class, and an intense after-school  writing workshop for advanced writers in grades 6-8.

May 6, 2008. Montrose Elementary School, Edmonton. Writing workshops for grades 3 and 6.

May 5, 2008. Win Ferguson Elementary School, Fort Saskatchewan. Writing workshops for grades 3 and 6.

Adult Presentations

May 25, 2007. Canadian Authors Association, Edmonton, AB. A talk to the membership on "Quiet Listening and Creative Practice."

March 2, 2007. Presentation to a Children's Literature class at University of Alberta.

November 15, 2008. Scarlet's Sisters Authors Showcase lunch and book talk/sale at Elks Hall, Edmonton. This event was a blast. These ladies don't mess around--they know how to have fun! Look at these cakes!
